Wilmslow Goes Green With The Festival Of Nature 2021

Celebrating its green credentials, Wilmslow is hosting a free Festival of Nature in October 2021. This family-friendly, eco-driven festival runs at the same time as COP26 – the international meeting to fight climate change. So, how is the Festival of Nature helping Wilmslow to be more energy-efficient?

What Is The Festival Of Nature 2021?

The focus of the Festival of Nature is to celebrate Wilmslow and raise awareness of how to preserve it for future generations.

The festival runs at a similar time as COP26 – the United Nations climate change summit. This is largely considered as the best (and last) chance to tackle climate change and limit global warming. With COP26 and the decisions from the summit affecting everyone, Wilmslow’s Festival of Nature is here to help people work together to become greener and more sustainable.

What’s On During The Festival Of Nature?

Throughout October, Wilmslow will play host to a number of nature- and sustainability-themed events. Throughout October, you can enjoy:

On Yer Bike Music Festival – includes a DJ set and Q&A with everyone’s favourite Happy Monday’s maraca-shaker, Bez. The music festival will also showcase lots of local bands, and all the power for the amps will be powered by bike!

Tree Planting – There are lots of opportunities to get green-fingered with daffodil planting in the town square, tree planting with the Quarry Bank Mill estate and fruit tree planting in the Food Forest Garden.

Repair Café –  Restore your favourite household items to their former glory by dropping in at the Repair Café. On hand will be a team of volunteers ready to fix any broken items as a way to reduce the throwaway culture and help you make the most of your items.

Bike Ride – The festival will be offering e-bikes to try out and events with Cycle Wilmslow where you can enjoy a lovely scenic bike ride using the Green Routes around the town and have a rest and replenishment stop at the pub.

Poetry Competitions – Young poets can participate in the Children’s Open Mic, while there’s also a poetry competition at Wilmslow Artisan Market. You can also join in with a poetry walk on Lindow Moss. Whether you’re new to poetry or an experienced writer, there are poetry workshops available for everyone.
